The Phantoms travelled to Brooksville to take on an old foe this past Saturday. The conditions were bitter cold and windy for the matchup. And the Phantoms started off the night with a little chill in their system. After the first quarter, it was still a zero to zero tie. But the Phantoms evenutally warmed up the place with a deep conntection from QB Torrence Brown to TE Demetrick Love for the first score of the game.
As much as the Ballers wanted to make this a hard fought rivalry game, the Phantoms were all business on this night. Brown and Love conntected once again for a touchdown right before halftime, this time for 55yds. After a missed PAT the score was 13-0. Well Orlando wasn’t done yet. After Brooksville mishandled the ensuing kickoff, the Phantoms recovered and would take one more strike at the endzone.
A 23yd completion to rookie WR Velton Brown, would put the F-4 offense 1st and goal on the 10yd, but the Phantoms would have to settle for 3pts, as kicker Kyle Magee would punch it in to put the Phantoms up 16-0 at the half.
The Phantoms defense had been on their game the entire night, but in the second half, they jumped into gear. Snatching up 2 interceptions, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 funble recoveries, the defense put together a top notch performance. In fact on a night where a lot of the chatter was about the efficiency of the offense, the Grave Digger defense forced the Ballers into -29 total offensive yards for the night.
A late touchdown run by Greg Debose would seal the deal for the evening and leave the Ballers with their first loss of the season. Phantoms win in the shutout 23-0 and move on to face the Seminole Mambas in the home opener next week.
